Neurodiversity

The neurodiversity paradigm is a framework for understanding human brain function that recognizes the diversity within sensory processing, motor abilities, social comfort, cognition, and focus as neurobiological differences. This diversity falls on a spectrum of neurocognitive differences. Wikipedia

Neurodivergent:

Neurodivergent is a nonmedical term that describes people whose brains develop or work differently for some reason. This means the person has different strengths and struggles from people whose brains develop or work more typically.

Autism

different way of brain and sensory processing

Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia

Specific difficulties with brain processing such as math's, spacial awareness and writing. These are not related to low intelligence or IQ in fact it is often the opposite

ADHD

ADHD is a trait that has a complex set of traits within its definition. Often incorrectly thought of as a problem, with correct support and patience ADHD people can thrive in their environment.

OCD, ODD, Anxiety

See our specific page on these traits

Sensory and Auditory processing

Although two separate diagnoses they both fall into the neurodiversity range. Please see our specific notes on each of these

Developmental and learning difficulties

Students that fall into this category will require more support from allied health, such as speech therapists, occupational health and specific medical divisions. As a team students can be supported in their want to drive.

Culturally diverse

All cultures and societies have specific traits, beliefs and ways of life that affect learning and development. Honoring each of these can assist these people in attaining their goals.

Tourette's

Tourette's is still being understood by our medical world and each person has their own unique brain that works in its own way.  Vocal and physical tics are a trait of Tourette's and can cause social difficulties. Overcoming these and developing an educational area of acceptance and accommodation allows the person to step over these barriers and achieve their goals.
